MAGIARCH MARLOCH SORCERON

The Shaanite dynasty, first monarchic dynasty of Southgate, ended with king Zaroun (a.k.a. The Ill-Fated) in 50 A.R., who died of an unatural disease and without an heir. Zaroun's wife, Anlara Tyrane (a.k.a The Dark Majestrix), was presumed to have murdered him through foul magics. Anlara proclaimed herself as the first Magiarch of Southgate in 51 A.R. (Year of the Dark Majestrix). The year after (Year of Sorrows), Magiarch Anlara outlawed all goodly and lawful worships in Southgate and its area of influence, promoting instead the worship of dark and/or chaotic powers such as Sorcere, Shades, Hates, Kharalkuur, et al.. In 59 A.R., Magiarch Anlara proclaimed the kingdom of Tyrane, which spanned the lands that today constitute what is known as the Greater Southgate area.

Anlara Tyrane was slain and replaced by a proeminent member of her inner circle of mages in 70 A.R. (Year of the Lich), a man named
Marloch Sorceron who turned out to be a powerful lich. Thus Magiarch Marloch (a.k.a. The Lich Lord) proclaimed the kingdom of Malebonia (in lieu of the kingdom of Tyrane), enslaved all of the people of the kingdom and instituted his 300 year-long Reign of Terror (from 71 to 370). It was under Marloch's reign that human sacrifices were almost a daily occurence, and when the church of Orcas rose to unprecedented heights in proeminence and power.

Unexplicably, Magiarch Marloch abdicated and disappeared in 370 A.R., allowing for the necromage
Crenax Faralax (a.k.a. The Callous) to ascend as the third Magiarch of Southgate. The tyranny of Magiarch Crenax ended in 422 A.R., after the necromage was deposed and slain by the sorceress Gaele Magnus (a.k.a. The Restoratrix). Being a devoted worshiper of the goodly goddess Dweore, Magiarch Gaele outlawed and expulsed all evil/chaotic worship out of the kingdom of Malebonia. She then dissolved the kingdom, returning Southgate to a status of city-state and applying herself at restoring prosperity and good living in the city and the whole of the Greater Southgate area. In 432 A.R., after a 10 year-long reign, the good, kind and wise Magiarch Gaele restored dynastic monarchy in Southgate by abdicating and crowning Pharaos Nelanthyr, first king of the Nelanthian dynasty.

To this day, no one is certain as to what happened to Marloch. All that is known is that he retired to a secret, private sanctum sanctorum that is rumored to be located somewhere in what are known today as the undersewers of Southgate. Is the lich still alive but dormant? Or did Marloch's lichdom ran its course, leaving him as nothing more than ash and dust? These are questions that remain without answers.
