"... And danger there is in Southgate, indeed. My instincts tell me that
dark forces are pulling evil strings all about this area of the Azure Coast.
But for what purpose? That I do not know ... yet."
- Zaranthys Rivermoon (a,k,a, Strider, Zaal Raack), ranger-adventurer, while conversing in a tavern.
"So, when and where do we start finding out?"
- Galduur Ironshield, dwarven warrior-hero, in response.
Almost a year has passed since you left Seacrest to wander and explore further north along the Azure Coast of the continent of Anarym. When you think on it, it seems it was only yesterday that you finally vanquished the dreaded Mind Lords. Road weary and bone tired, you smile as you stand before the gates of Southgate. During your travels, you heard much of this great port city. Looking upon its ramparts that seem to spread all the way to the far horizon, you understand that the tales about Southgate were right on the mark: this city is vast, a veritable sea of humanity, houses and buildings.
Little can you guess that the Fates have something altogether different in mind for you, other than some rest and relaxation. Then again, how could you have known that your arrival in Southgate happens to coincide with the coming of the Times of Darkness, as prophesized by the legendary seer Zoniax?
Even worse: how can you even imagine that you will soon have to contend against some of the darkest of Gods of Lhari-Orin?
The Fates, people are fond of saying, are cruellest to those who have taunted them one time too many. And who else but adventurers are the most guilty of such disrespect?
It appears that the Fates have picked your number this time around: will you stop the darkness or be swallowed forever by it?
Dead of Night (DoN for short) is a non-official ("3rd-party") Realmz scenario for 6 characters beginning at an average 22nd-23rd level (i.e. 135 levels party). This scenario is the first instalment of the Prince of Death Cycle and was released in October 2004.
The scenario is quite large; indeed, it includes the following: 8 land levels, 10 indoor levels (castles, inns, shops, taverns, sewers, ruins, etc.), and 1 underground level. In other words, there is a lot of fun stuff to do in this scenario, in addition to the main story. Unfortunately, you will be able to do it all only if you register (registration cost: $5.00 only!), although there is still a nice deal for you to explore and experience before registration is required;
Some 270 monsters for 500+ possible battles, along with some 90-odd new items, 12 available special characters (NPC's), some 20+ major villainous personae to contend with, and countless other characters (from bartenders to Great Kings and Queens) for the players to interact with;
The scenario has a complex plot and full story, coupled to a textured background setting (no skimming on the details!) along with rich dialogs, good drama, extended freedom of choice for the players, many riddles and puzzles to solve, etc.;
While there are numerous, *very* tough battles in DoN, the overriding modus operandi of the scenario is: "Durn good brains an' a good sword required; otherwise, ye need not apply"!
And plenty more fun things to do and explore, aside from the far-reaching, main plot!
