Marshes of Sorrows
This vast area of marshes and swamps just north and west of Arandor are wild and dangerous, being permeated by humidity and fog, and infested by disease-carrying insects, venomous snakes, ruthless lizard men, brutish trolls and other such creatures. It is therefore not surprising that no one ever thought of attempting to settle this inhospitable landscape.
However, it would seem that this area was not always a marsh/swamp land: indeed, the old, crumbling ruins of a city of the lost empire of Macremia (which fell c.a. -13000 A.R. at the same time as its adversary, the empire of Telluria, after the Great War of the Empires) lie near the middle of this region, indicating that it had been once a fertile habitable area that was successfully settled. The name of this ruined macremian city has been lost to the ages.
Of note is the fact that the Marshes of Sorrows were not always named as such. Indeed, as far as human memory goes, this region was ever known as the Fog Marshes. However, the marshes were renamed in 1215 A.R. after the three month-long Battle of Sorrows, when the brunt of the invading army of the defunct nation of Chalanth was eradicated by the defending army of Arandor in those very same marshes. The sheer numbers of fallen slodiers and warriors was such that corpses and bones (including armors and weapons) are said to litter to this day the marshes at the site of the battle, which is reputed to be near the macremian ruins.
The Marshes of Sorrows are yet to constitute a part of the adventuring locale of a Realmz scenario.
